Still Water, Clear Sky

Mount Fuji stands cloudless above Lake Kawaguchi at sunset, snow still on the summit and the town of Fujikawaguchiko strung along the far shore. Corey and I had crossed the bridge and found a spot among the rocks on the near shore to watch the light leave the mountain. Not a cloud sat on Fuji the whole evening, which does not happen often here, so we were in no rush to go. A thirty-second exposure pulled the lake flat, smoothing the water into the still sheet below the peak while the last warm light held on the snow. We stayed on the rocks long after the frame was made, talking through everything we had seen across our trip, letting the day end slowly.
