Last Light on Fuji

We reached the Fuji area later than planned and stepped off the train with under half an hour before sunset. The viewpoint sits at the top of the better part of four hundred steps above the pagoda, so we climbed fast, lungs burning, watching the light shift with every landing. We came over the last step just as the sky behind Mount Fuji turned to pink.
