A photographic print mounted beneath glossy acrylic glass, bonded to an aluminum backing and sealed at the edges. The image is exposed on Fuji Crystal photographic paper and developed in the traditional way, then the acrylic draws the color forward and deepens the sense of space, so the picture reads as if lit from within.

Where my baryta print reads as ink on cotton, the acrylic reads as an object. Glossy, dimensional, with color and contrast pushed to their fullest. It is the surface I choose when an image lives on saturation and depth, a savanna at last light, water and reflection. The aluminum backing keeps the panel flat and ready to hang the moment it arrives.

Fujicolor Crystal Archive DP II - Acrylic Color

Every color image in this format is printed on Fujicolor Crystal Archive DP II, the silver halide paper professional labs turn to when color has to carry the picture. It is exposed by laser and developed in chemistry, the same lineage as a traditional color print, and it holds the widest color range in Fujicolor's gallery line along with the density to keep blacks deep. Sealed under acrylic, the paper does what it does best. Color sits saturated, shadows stay weighted, and the glass draws the whole image forward.

The print is bonded to an aluminum backing and sealed beneath glossy acrylic, a closed panel that stays flat and clean for years and arrives ready to hang. This is the loud, luminous end of my work, the surface I choose when an image lives on color and light, a savanna at last light, water holding the sky. The paper underneath is the reason that color travels as far as it does.

From the field

We came to Scripps Pier for the evening, not for the photograph. The crowds had gone and the sun was already down, the sky settling into the blue and amber of true twilight, when a last surfer waded in from the cold water. The long exposure held him only as a pale shape, half here and half gone, while the pier ran out to its vanishing point above the breaking waves.
